17th treasure [video]

[Ah, such a lovely day this is. Seriously, it has everything needed for perfection: a wobbly video feed, a fluffy lime green afro taking up most of said feed, a Relicanth swiftly swimming away from said afro, and an original score -crashing waves, Eevee screams, the shouts of a hundred furious souls- that matches the action perfectly.]

Look at that fish go-

[For a man who has to deal with an Eevee screaming in his ear and digging his claws in his shoulder, Ash sounds much too gleeful. The image starts to turn around, shaking even more as it moves.]

-and look at those turtles follow!

[Ash also sounds much too cheerful for a man being pursued by dozens of angry Tirtougas. He might even sound like he's laughing.

...He is laughing. Oh hell.]

Looks like they're gaining on us. Afrodite, show them what we can do!

[Not that anyone else will get to see what exactly that is, because Evo chooses that moment to try and get away from this madness, hitting the Gear in the process.]

I don't think Ditto are quite that competent. They do seem as much like actual people as any of the other natives outside of their uniformity... isn't there some sort of fox-like Pokemon that's actually very good at imitating humans?

I would expect it'd actually be their evolution, Zoroark, but... well, even though those are actually bipedal, they don't have opposable thumbs either. Perhaps there are measures in place so it isn't actually an issue?

If anything, I'd think it'd be a cheaper investment in the long run, particularly if this practice has been going on for several decades and the machinery was designed with Pokemon in mind in the first place.
enjoymyatelier: maybe he should check the foundations, come to think of it. (red car. good point.)

I'm certain that Electric Pokemon were around long before the technology ever was. I'd imagine that the original inventors would have at least tried to keep things like that in mind while developing these kinds of things.
enjoymyatelier: but what would that even do. (gradients of babylon...?)

[personal profile] enjoymyatelier 2013-11-23 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it's not like they couldn't just go out and catch something that learns Thunder and use it to test it out, provided they didn't have a Pokemon like that to begin with.
enjoymyatelier: actually, it totally will. (aha! a plan that will not end in failure)

It's practically stress relief: the job. Of course, I'd imagine they'd have to have a range of types on hand; after all, it's not just Electric Pokemon that would be able to wreak havoc on machinery.
enjoymyatelier: maybe he should check the foundations, come to think of it. (red car. good point.)

Not every attack, given that a fair amount of them are stronger or weaker variations on each other. I'm certain that if you had a Snorlax Body Slam a prototype you wouldn't have to bother testing out Tackle or Quick Attack.

Honestly, if a machine could stand up to a Snorlax and not a Magikarp, I'd think there would be other things I'd be wondering about.

Namely, where could I get a Magikarp like that? It would certainly be nice to have one that wasn't an absolute nightmare to train.
enjoymyatelier: no seriously what are you doing (uhhhhhhhh....)

[personal profile] enjoymyatelier 2013-12-10 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
...that is true, but surely they'd advertise that sort of thing, wouldn't they? Magikarp are rather infamous, so any improvement would be looked upon with favor.
enjoymyatelier: maybe he should check the foundations, come to think of it. (red car. good point.)

[personal profile] enjoymyatelier 2013-12-11 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
...honestly, I'd put my money on the latter. Even if it was the former, there really wouldn't be much point in looking into it...

Ah, I meant buying one if they're still in the more experimental phases. I should have clarified. Like I said earlier, actually getting somewhere with them would be extremely useful... if nothing else, it might result in less temperamental Gyarados.
enjoymyatelier: but what would that even do. (gradients of babylon...?)

[personal profile] enjoymyatelier 2013-12-13 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sure it would be a factor, but so would spending the entirety of your early life as a Magikarp. I suspect that there could be Gyarados with slightly better natures than usual even despite the abuse they'd probably suffered beforehand, but it's entirely possible that they may not have a good understanding of how much damage they could potentially cause.
