Does anyone have any ideas how to cheer up a Pokémon who's lost his trainer? Raven's been...

[Gone? Sent home? Split from her team in a manner that might well be permanent?]

...It's been almost a week since she left, and he hasn't eaten a proper meal since then. I'm worried he'll get sick if this keeps going. Think some traveling would help?

[Nothing else he's tried has, and he's starting to run out of ideas.]

There's a long road with a few farms west of here, so I'm hoping he'll like the fresh air and outdoors. I trained with him around Ecruteak and brought him to most of the city's landmarks, and neither of those worked.

Well, sometimes being left alone to sort your thoughts out is also necessary. Sometimes a change of scenery is just a constant flow of unwanted stimuli.

Do your other Pokemon have opinions?

Eminoa's been trying to hug it out of him; Stripes, Bouncy and Catherine have been giving him as many trinkets as they can find; Stumbly and Grabby have been trying to make him laugh; all of the birds have been staying as far away as they could. The others don't seem to have any idea what to do either.

It really is different for every individual.

Can't really say I advise the hugging. Or the laughing. Sometimes that feels disrespectful to your grief.

I'll pass on that message. They mean well, but all of them were raised by me from the beginning. They probably don't understand what loss feels like yet.

My Riolu, Silena, had it happen. I'm sure he won't hold it against them in the end, but... Sorry, but not knowing anything about you? I reeeally can't stress how traumatic that kind of loss can be, especially if it's nurturing figure who raised you or something/

But we can't let him practically starve himself out of grief. He's already lost some weight, and probably not a healthy amount either.

I know it's kind of shallow, but if his former trainer had any traveling companions, would they know what food he really likes? Bribery is a tactic.

I don't think she had human ones. She didn't really enjoy crowds and loudness. She did have a Swablu, however; if it found itself with a new trainer, I could try asking it.

Yeah. And, you know, he'll eat when he gets hungry, too. Any small victories, too.

But I still hope the Swablu can help. Maybe I should... you know, write up instructions if something happens to me...

That's a good idea. Since you never know where your Pokémon might end up you'd have to leave a copy with each of them, but at least they and their new trainers wouldn't be completely left to their own devices.

It sounds almost like writing a will. Maybe I should appoint them godparents, too.

Maybe even second-choice godparents, in case something happens to the first option...

...Then again, if we tried to prepare for every single possibility those instructions would end up heavier than the Pokémon themselves. Updating them often would work better. Or willing everything to the Foster Home.

Might stick with the constant updating idea. I didn't avoid a foster home, but I did avoid the foster home, and I'm pretty grateful for that.

Nasty place?

The one here is good, at least, though the employees are overworked. It comes with the Breeding Centre.

I honestly don't know one way or the other. I suspect it's like the one here-- too many kids and not enough workers. All I know is that Bruce -- my foster father, I mean -- he thought he'd better take me in instead.

Maybe I ought to pay that forward.

That'd be kind of you. I think Saber mentioned a while back that some of the Pokémon have been there for over a year. That's probably more time than they've spent with their trainers in the first place.

Do you have to go in person? I realize I have no idea where this is.

It's in Goldenrod, but you can contact them through the Gear. Or at least, that's how it works for the Breeding Centre. I don't think the Foster Home is any different.
