Can anyone explain to me what was supposed to be so horrible about challenging Whitney? She was really sweet when we talked, and the info she shared about Normal-types is going to be useful when I move on. I fail to see what's warning-worthy about that.

She cries when she loses and will refuse to give you your rightfully earned badge.

Really? She teared up for a few seconds, sure, but otherwise she was very pleasant and she gave me the badge immediately.

Probably because she's so used to her cheery ass being beaten into oblivion.

That's the point, isn't it? Defeating them all. It's no wonder they're expecting it.

Just because that's the point of this venture doesn't mean that the NPCs believe they are inevitably going to lose.

Maybe not inevitably, but they have to know that people will challenge them until they win.

I guess not. Still, for some reason I didn't have that problem with her at all. Maybe she's learning to accept losses more gracefully?

Better late than never. Some people don't learn professionalism easily, but at least it looks like she's trying.

Then again, you'd think they'd be openly associated with the official battle rules or something. Unless even the locals don't usually know about them.

Not as far as I know, but I haven't really asked either. Then again, if any of us had received a satisfactory answer it'd have been shared by now.

Is that a new thing, or have the locals always been this way? You'd think that if they were playing 'keep the foreigners in the dark', people would slip up every so often.
