It does, but that doesn't preclude you from having affinities. I mean, you can be more of a dog person but still love your cat, right?

. . . Oh, that's all? Then, yeah, I guess I would be more of a cat person. Most of my Pokemon are dogs and I gotta bird. I don't have any cats here.

None at all? I'd suggest getting a Meowth. They're cuddly, they're good at finding lost items, they can create money out of thin air...

Meowth? ...Don't think I've seen one before.

They're beige cats, with a golden coin on their forehead. You can see them often in Goldenrod's alleys, especially if you leave food out.

[ . . . He wants one now.] Guess I'll start leavin' food out! They sound like the cats back home. Bet they like shiny things too, right?

Shiny things, balls of yarn, laser pointers... If the stray cats you know like something, Meowths are likely to do so too.

[HE WANTS ONE EVEN MORE...] Cool! Bet if they're anything like the cats I know, they probably don't like dogs much.

[...and then there was great sadness in the land.] Poochy would hate the Meowth on the spot.

...That's mostly not a problem, at least in our case. Though I guess letting my Houndoom keep her egg warm before she hatched helped. Is Poochy the jealous type?

Super jealous. She watched T-Bone get hatched and she's still kinda mean to him! The only egg she was good with is an Umbreon now. I figure the reason they like each other is because they're the same type.

Meowth learns a handful of Dark-type moves over time. I don't suppose that would be enough for them to strike up a friendship? Or some sort of truce?

Y'know that makes sense. ...Yeah, I can see 'em gettin' along if they had somethin' in common.

[Or it can inspire competition, whichever.]

They could always... compare the strength of their shared moves. Gloat about their ability to kick Psychic ass together.
